The Box of Chocolates show that was planned for this Saturday, February 27th, had to be rescheduled to March 13th. But it’ll still happen then, so you can still come out and hear some great cover tunes. And in the meantime, I’ve taken over the slot for this Saturday! So this Saturday night at 7 pm I’ll be playing a full-length solo acoustic show–the first one I’ve played in a few years. If you’re on Facebook, you can check out the Facebook event page here; otherwise, all the details are on the Live page. Hope to see you there!

I’m very excited to announce that I’ll be playing two shows in February. The second one will be Saturday February 27th, with the cover band Box of Chocolates. I played a gig with them last August (wow, was it that long ago?) and we had a blast, and this time promises to be great as well. We’ll cover everything from the Beatles to Coldplay to Jason Mraz to Stevie Wonder to Mary Mary and much more–something for everyone.
The first show, which was just confirmed last night, will be on Thursday February 18th and is a benefit concert for Wine to Water (http://www.winetowater.org), a non-profit aid organization focused on providing clean water to needy people around the world. It’s a great cause and I’m stoked to be able to play for this concert. I’ll be opening for Soul Puppet and my friends Goodbye Luna. Tickets are only $10; for the first 100 people that buy tickets, 50% of sales will go directly to the Wine to Water organization, and after 100 people, Wine to Water will get 75% of the sales. So the more people who come, the more money we can raise and the more people we can help! Please tell your friends and spread the word. If you’re on Facebook, you can see the official Facebook event page here.
Full details of both shows can be found on the Live page. I hope to see you soon!

I’ve added two more songs you can download for free! On the Music page, I’ve added a new page for Redeemer Hymns of the Month. Last August, I was asked to become one of the worship leaders for my church, Redeemer Presbyterian Church in Newport Beach, and one of the responsibilities I’ve taken over recently is making recordings of our hymns of the month. Every month the pastor and I choose a hymn to teach the congregation, I do a recording of it, and we sing it each Sunday of the month. I’ve done two so far, and both of them are available to listen to (with posted lyrics) and also to download for free! Check out the Redeemer page to get your free downloads. And remember, “Paradoxology” is also still available to download in the post below this one!
I’ve also added a new live show–I’ll be playing guitar with Box of Chocolates again on Saturday, February 27th. We’ll be doing two sets of rocking cover songs and you won’t want to miss it. Head over to the Live page for the details!

I’m excited to announce that I’ll be releasing a new Christmas single, a song called “Paradoxology,” this Christmas Eve 12/24/2009. This is a song I wrote several years ago that deals with the paradoxes of the Incarnation when God became man, but I’ve never released it until now. While you’re eagerly awaiting Christmas Eve, you can read the lyrics of the song on the Music page here. I’m excited to share this song with you, and also to give you a first taste of the general sound and feel that Songs From My Shelf will have. So stay tuned, and come right back here to http://www.ajharbison.com on Christmas Eve to download your free copy of “Paradoxology”!

I’ve updated most of the concert music pages so that you can now preview the first page of the score! This feature is available for all of the Cal State Fullerton compositions through to the present. So if you’ve ever wondered what some of these scores look like, head on over to the Music page, click on the composition title of your choice, scroll to the bottom of the page and check it out!

I am pleased as punch to announce that my first concert music work has been published! Kallisti Music Press in Philadelphia has published New Hope, an art song for bass/baritone voice and piano that I composed last year. Andrew Stiller, the publisher, has called me a “highly promising young composer” and New Hope “a provocative song,” and I’m extremely grateful to him for being the very first publisher of my music. So head on over to the Kallisti site, and order a copy of the score for the bass/baritone in your life this Christmas! And stay tuned–more of my compositions published by Kallisti are soon to follow!

I’ll be playing a live show on August 29th with a new cover band I’m playing for called Box of Chocolates. We’ll be doing mostly covers with maybe an original or two thrown in, but it should be a lot of fun. The show will be at a brand new coffee shop in Irvine called Paradise Perks. Check out the Live page (or click on the tab above) for more information, come out and see the show–and keep checking back!

I’ve finished updating the Music page with all the information from the previous incarnation of AJHarbison.com! All my concert music, pop songs, and theatrical music (and my one film score) have their own pages where you can find information, audio recordings and lyrics (and watch the film). Check ‘em out, and leave a comment here!
